Evergreen awards is honored to recognize The Last Ones (TLO) as the Best Educational Platform for Holocaust Awareness in the U.S. of 2025. Founded by Dr. Leslie Benitah, TLO has redefined how we preserve and share the testimonies of Holocaust survivors, ensuring that the voices of those who lived through history’s darkest moments continue to resonate with new generations.

A Personal Mission to Preserve History

As the granddaughter of four Holocaust survivors, Dr. Benitah’s work is deeply personal. She has spent the past seven years traveling across the globe to document over 150 survivor testimonies, capturing their stories in an effort to preserve their memories before they disappear forever. Through The Last Ones, Dr. Benitah is not only ensuring these stories are shared but also creating a digital legacy that will outlive the survivors themselves.

“What we’re doing is more than just remembering. It’s about relevance, about bringing these stories into the digital age,” Dr. Benitah says. Her mission has garnered widespread attention and support from institutions such as Yad Vashem and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Innovative Digital Storytelling for a New Generation

What sets The Last Ones apart from other Holocaust initiatives is its use of digital storytelling to make history accessible and engaging for today’s youth. TLO’s short-form videos, which are raw, emotional, and unfiltered, have reached millions of people across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, with one testimony alone reaching over 7.8 million views.

TLO isn’t just preserving history, it’s making it resonate. By meeting students and younger generations where they are, on the platforms they use every day, The Last Ones has sparked a worldwide conversation about the Holocaust and its lessons for today.

Educational Reach and Impact

Beyond social media, The Last Ones has integrated its educational materials into curriculums in 29 U.S. states, ensuring that Holocaust education is available in classrooms across the country. With a national curriculum and curriculum-based tools, TLO is empowering educators to teach young people about the Holocaust in an impactful way, while the upcoming launch of their geo-located Holocaust testimony app in 2025 will make survivor stories even more accessible.

The Urgency of Their Mission

In a world where historical distortion and antisemitism are on the rise, The Last Ones is a critical force in the fight against denial and indifference. “This isn’t just about remembrance,” Dr. Benitah reflects. “It’s about confronting the rising tide of antisemitism and ensuring that future generations understand the importance of these stories.”

Why This Award Matters

The Last Ones has not only transformed Holocaust education but has also set a new standard for how history should be preserved and shared in the digital age. Through its powerful and emotional storytelling, its educational tools, and its vast reach, The Last Ones ensures that the voices of Holocaust survivors will continue to inform, inspire, and educate long after they are gone.
